As part of the project Rijeka European Capital of Culture, 16 writers spent a spring month in the Kvarner area and its islands, separately, each one of them at a different location…

There, at sea, the blowing Bora (wind) often breaks seawater into tiniest droplets and foam creating a thin, misty layer, the so-called “smoking sea” (lat. fumarea).

In the unique environment of the Kvarner boras, the authors’ ones were as well created: a collection of short stories of authors’ authentic Kvarner experiences.

The design of Authors’ Boras seeks to evoke the emotional and physical experience of Bora. The text is printed on tracing paper in such a way that the letters overlap and irresistibly resemble watery dust caused by the Bora at sea. But turning the page brings the necessary clarity and allows reading, which is also very characteristic of the Bora – known to be the mind-clearing wind.
