One of Studio Sonda’s projects is elaborated in the textbook Načrtovanje in oblikovanje embalaže (Planning and Design of Packaging), published by the University of Ljubljana. The University of Ljubljana is the oldest and the largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia. Founded way back in 1919, today it counts about 40,000 students, it employs more than 6,000 university professors and is listed among the 500 best universities in the world. With the aim to explain the functional design of packaging to her students, professor Urška Vrabić Brodnjak wrote the book Načrtovanje in oblikovanje embalaže (Planning and design of packaging) in which she, among other examples, reports one of Studio Sonda’s works which relates to a packaging solution created for Holcim Agrocal powder.
It is an ecological product that previously used to be delivered to gardeners in huge and impractical packages. Since the main goal of the solution is sustainability, the product packaging is ecological, made with easily degradable paper and printed with only one color. The product is embedded in a wooden box, which is not supposed to be thrown away after opening, but to be reused for storing and transporting tools. Since the principle of functionality in the retail space is the key, the packaging is designed in such a way that the boxes can be stacked one next to the other in order to create an independent unit. On the other hand, there is and important functional element for the consumer as well; since the box has a handle, it can be easily hand carried. We are proud to be part of such an important academic program and to have been mentioned in a university textbook, alongside some of the world’s biggest brands such as Coca-Cola, Bayer, Garnier or Barilla.
