Rijeka ECoC 2020 doesn’t want to be defined as typical Mediterranean tourist destination offering sun, sea and linked experiences. The idea is to attract tourists that desire something different – like to participate in the unfinished town with those who create it. Live and create the city, sleep in the MMSU (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), cook at the food and music festival Porto Etno, play at the Tobogan festival, work within the RiHub initiative… these are very unique projects that aim to include participants in the urban reinvention of the uninhabited and abandoned areas of the city such as Luka, Delta and the former complex Rikard Benčić.
They are the ones that were presented through the pavilion and the publication at ITB Berlin Tourism Fair in March, offering a completely different content from those we are used to see at this kind of tourism fairs.
Architects Ida Križaj Leko and Idis Turato sign the architecture project of the pavilion. Ivan Šarar and project collaborators Marko-Luka Zubčić and Renato Stanković designed the presentation concept. The preparation of the promotional brochure entitled ‘Rijeka City in Progress’ was carried out by the members of the ECoC team Bernard Koludrović (RiHub Initiative Leader), Jelena Milić (Coordinator of the programming stream Brick House), Lela Vujanić (Manager of the programming stream Kitchen), Jelena Androić (Public Relations Manager), Irena Kregar Šegota (Development and Strategic Partnerships Director) and Slaven Tolj (Artistic Director of Rijeka 2020 – ECoC). Studio Sonda signed the design of the brochure. The author of the visual identity for Rijeka ECoC 2020 is designer Oleg Šuran.
