The label design for Piquentum wine, created by Studio Sonda, has been recognized as one of the five most innovative wine designs on the website of RGD (The Association of Registered Graphic Designers) – Canada’s leading professional association for
design. Projects that “bring innovative design approaches” and elevate design to a new level were featured. In the article mentioning Piquentum, they highlighted the striking minimalism of the contemporary aesthetic, the design’s educational potential, and the fusion of science and branding.

In collaboration with the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service, Studio Sonda spent years collecting weather data from the vineyard as the basis for designing the wine label. Since the wines differ each year due to varying weather conditions, so does the label. Through circles that illustrate the monthly rainfall, the behavior of nature from one harvest to the next is literally transferred onto the label. In this way, nature itself becomes part of the art direction, and the label becomes a visual record of the year, and a unique trace of nature’s behavior.

Thanks to this idea (and great product, of course), Piquentum conquered new markets and managed to enter world-class restaurants, while Studio Sonda won numerous awards and recognitions, including the second Cannes Lion in Croatian history in the Industry Craft category. Piquentum label has also received recognition and awards from the Croatian Designers Association for packaging design. Designaustria awarded it with the Joseph Binder distinction in the packaging design category, and there are also Eurobest 2017 awards, Red Dot 2017, Grand Prix at the Days of Communication, the ADC golden cube – the highest award in the packaging category, gold and silver at the London International Awards, best project at BalCannes 2019. etc.

The recognition from RGD has confirmed the international relevance of the project, and by being included among the five most innovative labels, Piquentum and Studio Sonda have once again proven that local stories can resonate on a global scale and that sustainable, thought-out solutions can find their way to even the most demanding professional circles. And customers.
